For the many years that I was interviewing potential employees I saw it all. The above cartoon, unfortunately, is very true. It is wise to check all references, not because the previous employer will tell you the truth about why the former employee left the job (they won't - they are afraid to break some law and get sued) but to make sure the potential employee even worked there...ever. The lying that goes on is incredible. Sometimes employers only find out about the lies months later; sometimes even years later. What has our society come to? We protect liars.
