Employees Beware!

It's all over the newspapers and TV - if you have a Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, YouTube, etc... account you need to go there and look at it with "fresh eyes". Employers are using these sites to get info on prospective employees, current employees, and employees up for promotion. So, go to your site(s) and check if there are any inappropriate photos - negative remarks about your employer, work place, or co-workers and delete them. It would be a shame, in this economy, to lose a job or not get a promotion because of something posted on the Internet. Just a little advice.

Apps For Everything

It is amazing when you start to look at all the different apps you can have. Problem is I do not have an electronic device that uses apps; not that I would really want one - the small screen and reading do not go very well with my kind of vertigo. But I do think it's really fun for those who want to use the apps - the choices are endless. I would love an app that tells me what to invest in and guarantees the results, wouldn't you?

To Do More

Couldn't we all do more with the life we have? Because I am so limited in what I can do, this revelation comes at a difficult time. However, I am able to be a listening ear for my dear sisters (they tell me this is very valuable to them) and to close friends. Over the years, people have sought out my advise and when that occurs I do give it to the best of my ability. I love my family and friends so whatever I can do to be of help I will try to do. We all have so much to give to others; we just have to follow our hearts.

The "Eyes" Have It

Good news going to a doctor! Wow, that's an unusual experience. Haven't been to an eye doctor for almost two years and, surprise, there has been no change - same prescription. I am totally amazed and very happy. We have great vision insurance so I will be getting new glasses - the old ones are scratched and really need help - and it won't cost a penny. Yay!! Hope you all had a great weekend. We did. Went off to one of our favorite restaurants and had an amazing meal - that didn't cost a cent either!! (Gift card!!!)

Opthamologist Today

Off to the eye doctor very early this morning. Really need new prescription - getting older. Has been over 2 years since I last went. At that time I did not need reading glasses but I do now -- have some and have been using them sometimes (depends on size of print, of course).

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Piano Girl

When Misha was but a toddler we bought her a little toy piano; much the same as the one above except it was a light turquoise blue. Right from the beginning she played with fingers individually - she never banged on it, ever. She wrote songs at a very young age and grew up to write and produce, with assistance, a CD when she was 17. She and her band toured Christian coffee shops in the Bay Area of California. I miss hearing her sing and play very much.

The Unknown Comic

Great fun, The Unknown Comic. He was very popular when Krista was growing up - and, with her sense of humor (even then) she used it to her advantage. She got into trouble when she was about 12 and, because I didn't want to totally "lose it", I sent her to her room telling her, "I don't want to see your face right now." A while later she returned with a bag over her head and eye holes cut out. She was sent back to her room but after she left I almost hurt myself laughing. She has kept me laughing ever since.

The TSA

John works with the TSA for the preemployment set up of testing, medical appointment, etc... They really do have to go through a lot - the entire process can take a very long time. It is not easy to get hired to work in an airport. I guess we all need to understand that they are doing what they have been trained to do. Not any one's favorite part of travel - not theirs either.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

You know what I'm sick of? Everyone fighting for "their side". Yes, I have opinions. You couldn't grow up in my house and not have one. But, right now, it seems to be the focus of everything. Who's "right" or "left". Who's right and who's wrong. Whatever the issue there is a right and left side to it and the other side is always wrong or crazy or dangerous or all three. We need to work together for the sake of our country and it's people. Whether one side is right or wrong seems so insignificant. We need to fix the problems; who cares who is right. Which is more important, being right or getting things back in gear? The truth is that both sides have their points - both sides are wrong in some areas too. Let's just pull together for a change.

Cards

When I was a kid, and a teenager, I spent many an hour playing cards with friends on "the island". This was a major pastime. Our favorites were hearts, snap, and war. I loved playing war; simple but fun. Wish it were that simple to solve world problems - wouldn't that be nice.
Please keep the Japanese people in your prayers.
Have a great weekend!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I haven't got one spot of Irish in me so I don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I don't even wear green - on purpose. I think it's a fine holiday to be celebrated by the Irish: go to a parade, have a beer (a green one, of course), and dance an Irish jig. All that is very fun and cool -- if you're Irish -- if not, it's pretty silly. Oh, by the way -- please don't kiss me, I'm not Irish.

March Madness!

My goodness! All anyone is talking about is college basketball. Even the President has set up his
bracket - wow! I said that word and don't even know what I'm talking about. I do think, however, that we should be considering a few things before basketball: Japan, Libya, Israel, the entire middle east, our armed service members who are in harms way, etc.... There are a lot of things that should be in our thoughts before basketball but, then, who am I?

Lobster - mmmm

It has been many, many years since I have eaten a freshly cooked lobster tail with clarified butter. Yum! The only thing that I didn't like was knowing, before it reached my plate, that a chef was dropping a live lobster into a pot of boiling water. I did my best to not think about it but the truth is the thought/guilt was always there. I guess it was due to the proximity of time from the pot to my plate. This episode in my life has not reoccurred for a long time due to the price of the meal; and I'm glad of it.

Disaster Looms

After all they have been through with the earthquake and tsunami, the Japanese people are now waiting to see if there is more to come with a possible nuclear power plant meltdown.
Please pray that they are able to get the situations stabilized and no meltdown or radiation issues occur.

Pray For Japan

Such horrific images we are seeing today. Tragedy. Fear. We need to be praying for all those who are in harm's way and for those who have been injured or have lost loved ones. The Tsunami is moving eastward and so we should also pray that no more damage, injury, or loss of life occurs as a result of this huge earthquake and tsunami.

Please pray today and over the weekend. See you on Monday.

Why Don't We Ask For Directions?

Forgive me if I've already told this story but it's one of my favorites. When the girls were young we took them to Disneyland. We did the whole bit, staying until after the parade. So, there we are, at about midnight, leaving and there were no clear signs to get us back to the freeway and to our hotel. We passed a couple of gas stations that were still open but -- you know men -- John would not stop for directions. We drove around for a very long time, in a really bad neighborhood (where is John's gun now - when we need it?), until -- whew -- we finally got out of there and to the freeway. It was funny, scary, and crazy - and we survived.

Beginning of Lenten Season

The most important time for Christians is Easter. Today, Ash Wednesday, begins Lent - 40 days before Easter Sunday - the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. This is a time to contemplate our sin and turn from it and ask forgiveness. Of course, one doesn't have to wait until Ash Wednesday to ask forgiveness for our sins - we can do this at any time. God is always listening and Jesus died for our sins so that we might have a personal relationship with Him and God. How do people get through life, which can be extremely difficult and painful, without Jesus and His Father? I know I certainly couldn't.

A Good Book

There is really nothing quite as great as a really good book. I am a voracious reader but since this vertigo started a year and a half ago things have changed. I used to read a couple of books at the same time and read them very quickly. Now, I can only read for a very short time - several minutes to 10 minutes on a good day, not at all on a bad day. It seems to take forever to read a book. There is one thing, however, that has not changed: my enjoyment of reading. I still love to read a good book, it just takes longer.

Our Hybrid

Tiggy, our dog, is a hybrid although he is mostly Norwich Terrier. He is now 12 1/2 years old. He walks a little stiffer now but still has his cute personality. He loves to throw his toys around. Sometimes he has us throw the toys and he fetches them but mostly he throws them in the air, rolls on them, and shakes them in his mouth. He is a gentle soul who likes everyone --- except puppies. Funny.

Back Healing

My back is a whole lot better than it has been for the last several days. I still have to be careful but it's feels good to not be in pain constantly. John has the weekend off again so we will go for a walk around the lake and take the dog to the groomers and pick up a little dinner for tomorrow night. Quiet weekend; he needs his rest - works very hard and with getting up at 2:45 in the morning he's always tired (who can blame him - I get up at 4:00 and I'm pooped!).

HAVE A SUPER WEEKEND - SEE YOU MONDAY!

Sorry!

Rip Off!

I'm no expert but I hear and know of some crazy things happening with credit cards these days. Like they don't charge enough in the way of finance charges, I have heard that some cards are charging over 25%! Really? And the best is: they send a letter telling you that you now must pay an annual fee or let them know that you won't - if you do this they close your credit card and, of course, that is a negative on your credit rating ---- Blackmail!!! Amazing, like they aren't making enough money off the American people!!!

New Phone

Had to get a new cell phone recently; old one was difficult for me to use - tiny keys etc... and it was really old. Anyway, got a phone, just for calls and texts, that's really easy for me to use with a slide out keyboard. Much easier for me to use. John and I or Misha and I will text rather than call sometimes. I do like the convenience of having a cell phone with me all the time but I am not happy about how much it costs. Will have to reconsider, when my contract is up, what I will do: there, apparently, is a way to get prepaid minutes (cheaply) through Walmart; have a couple of friends who have it and they really like it. We'll see.
