Flu Season

Already it is flu season. A whole lot of people here have an intestinal flu - yuk! I have to go and get my flu shot asap. Every year, for eight years, I have been getting a flu shot; so far it has kept me from getting anything serious. A little over 9 years ago John and I both got a really serious intestinal flu; I have never been sick like that before with a flu -- really awful. Ever since then I have not had a serious flu so, for me, the flu shot has been working. Hope none of you gets ill this flu season.

Grammar

Who knew that all our English teachers were correct in telling us to pay attention in class (or is it "whom" knew?). I actually enjoy grammar; knowing what is right or wrong -- or thinking I do. I really never did very well in English Grammar class in school until I was quite old and then realized how important it was. I actually received very good grades my last 2 or 3 years in school. Anyway, life is funny; you eventually find out all the things you thought were boring and unimportant are quite the opposite. Live and learn.

Really?

John and I are very different. The cartoon shows the man as perfectionist - it is quite the opposite with us. It is a good thing that this is so. We do have our disagreements but most often we balance each other. I think that when people say opposites attract, like magnets, that are so very right. We definitely complement each other. Thirty - one years and counting!!

Outsourcing

I love Tech Support! I guess I have been very lucky because I always get the help I need whether it's DirecTv, the phone company, HP, etc... Sometimes, however, the person is not from the USA and has a heavy accent - usually Indian or Pakistani. I must say when they slow down not only do they speak impeccable English but they are polite, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I know, unfortunately, that jobs for people here in the USA have been lost to this outsourcing but at least the ones I have spoken to are helpful.

Nana Loved to Knit

My mother, known to all her grandchildren as Nana, loved to knit. When I was young and still living at home I really don't remember an evening watching TV together that she wasn't knitting. There were, of course, times that she was doing needlepoint but her true love was knitting. That ended when her arthritis got to the point that she could no longer move the needles in the proper manner. She was sad when that occurred but was happy she could continue to work on needlepoint and sometimes embroidery. I think all three of us, her daughters, have pieces of her needlepoint. Her work is very fine.

Summer Fun Is Over

First Day of School in the Czech Republic; smiling faces and Bekah's perennial wet hair. Krista is teaching full time and Danny part time at an international school. Both girls are attending the school. This is such a blessing for the girls; for the first time they will be attending school in their own language. Krista says that they have compassion and total understanding of how the foreign students feel being at a school in another language (English). We know they will all do really well.
