Summer Fun

Misha and Marcelle enjoying their pool yesterday.  Some of the best times we all spent together, when my girls were young, were at the pool.  John and I grew up loving to swim and we made sure the girls learned also.  They are (not sure how long it's been since Krista swam) both good swimmers. Krista's girls too.  So, we have a family of 'fish'.

Hot, Hotter, Hottest!

All week we have been in the 90s but now we are in the low 100s - it looks like it will be this way until mid-week.  We will remain in the mid to high 90's after that for a while.  May even get some rain.  I am sure you are wondering 'why the weather forecast?'  Well, around here, weather (rain and heat) are of prime interest to us all.  We have been in a major  drought for many years and it's not looking very good for this summer.  We have already had a major fire on the Navajo Reservation at the northwest corner of the state.  They just got in 100 percent contained after about 10 days - there has been a lot of wind until a few days ago.  700 firefighters are there. There is hope for rain, though.  The predictions are looking good for El Nino this coming winter - which means:  rain!!!

Hope you all keep cool and have a great weekend!

Never Use Them

Above is one reason not to use an ATM - Lol!  We stopped using them years ago when we each forgot to enter the withdrawals into our checking account register and almost had bounced checks.  We vowed never again and never did.  When we get the cards from banks we are sure to let them know that we will never use them nor activate them, but the cards are useful for ID at the bank, of course.

It has been really hot here; 95 - 100 the last few days and will be all week as well.

Piggy Bank

I don't know about you but I never had a piggy bank.  I know a lot of kids who did, though.  They saved their pennies, nickels, and dimes until they had enough to buy whatever it was they were saving for.  Until I was a lot older, sixteen to be exact, I never saved for anything.  It was not something that was discussed in our home.  When I was sixteen I got my first job for the summer in a really nice department store. It was fun working there and the clothing discount was awesome; that's where a lot of my money went.  I would put money aside for clothes I wanted and then purchased them, at a discount, once I had the full amount.  I worked for them on and off - summers and Christmastime.

Have a truly fun weekend!

Nephew and Great-Niece

Such an adorable photo of my nephew, Chris (son of my sister Baba), and his infant daughter, Skyler.  This was taken a long time ago as Skyler is an adult now and attending university.
Happy Father's Day, Chris!

Stephen and Janet

This is a photo, taken last weekend at a wedding, of my oldest sister's son, Stephen and his wife, Janet.  They are a lovely couple.  Haven't seen Stephen since my mum died in 1998 - great guy.  Have never met Janet but, according to Steve, "She's The One", and I believe him.

Have a wonderful last Spring weekend!

Work, Work, Work!

This is really funny, for most people, but for John it is the opposite.  He works full time and then has 6 employers (merchandisers) he has been working for since 2010.  He gets up at about 3:00 or 3:30 a.m. most days of the week - does the merchandising work  and then goes to his full time job at 10:00 a.m.  Sometimes he even has to do some work after his full time job. He gets home, most nights at about 7:45 a.m., eats, does the paperwork for the merchandisers, and then goes to bed about 10:30 or 11:00.  He works his a** off.  I wonder if he truly knows how much his hard work is appreciated.  Because of the 2 kinds of vertigo I have, I am unable to work as I used to so he is 'making up' for all that lost income.  John, I really appreciate all that you do - not only how hard you work outside the home but all the help you give me here at home.  I love you.

Dorval Island

Every summer, my family spent it at our cottage on Dorval Island on Lac St. Louis near Montreal.  The best childhood memories I have are from this time.  We would move out there right after school ended, sometimes just before, and we would move back to town in early or mid-September.  Here I learned to swim and dive(and compete), to fish with my father, to 'captain' a speedboat, and sail at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club.  The sound of a lawnmower brings me right back to that time and place, as does the smell of fresh mowed grass.  The cottage and property looked different then (this was taken a couple of years ago).  My mother had it very pristine and not so overgrown.  It was truly lovely.  Probably the only thing I miss in Canada, other than family, is this place - my 'real home', as my Daddy would say.

Have a memorable weekend!

June!

Sorry, again.  Cannot upload anything - photos, etc...

I can hardly believe it is June already.  We are definitely having summer weather here; sunny and in the high 90s - we may see 100 this week.  Unfortunately, after having such nice rain showers last weekend, we have had nothing since. Hopefully, we will see some rain soon

Hope you are all having wonderful weather!
