Awaiting Lawyer Info

Still have no word from attorney but should know something today. Will keep you posted. John works on July 4 so he is taking tomorrow off so we have a 3 day weekend together - Costco here we come! So, I will not be blogging Friday. Weather has cooled down a few degrees into mid-90's - whew! That's a little better. We are all praying for rain -- to counteract the 6 month drought and help put out all the fires all over the state.

Have a super weekend and Happy 4th of July!!!

Lawyer Phone Call Coming Up

SORRY, NO CARTOON OR PHOTO TODAY.

UNABLE TO UPLOAD ANYTHING.

HOPE IT IS TEMPORARY.

Should hear from lawyer sometime today or tomorrow as to whether he has received two doctor's reports he has been waiting for. I really just want to know what the "scoop" is. All this time has gone by and I'm kind of stressed and fed up with the whole thing.

Heat continues at about 100 degrees which has been a week now with no real relief in sight. The Los Alamos fire continues to burn. We are being told there is no nuclear danger for any of us. Los Alamos is west of Albuquerque so it is not very far away. There have been so many fires and floods this year all across the country. All we can do is pray for every one's safety.

Family Photo...Part Deux

This beautiful photo was taken a few years ago in the Czech Republic. Good looking family, don't you think? We ask, all the time, for a new, updated photo, but so far no luck. Bekah is now a very grown up 13.5 and Roxie is 10. They have changed a lot since this photo was taken; we see that when we Skype with them. Thank God, again, for Skype!

Family Photo

Great photo of Alan, Marcelle, and Misha. Not sure who took the photo but it's really a good one.
Alan and Misha look so happy and Marcelle is mildly distracted from her snack. Love it!!!

Been very hot - over 100 degrees for about 5 days and no real respite in sight. We have had no precipitation since January (a slight shower about 6 weeks ago) and we are the number one state in drought for the nation. Two more fires started yesterday, one west of Albuquerque and one just southwest of us. The house smelled of smoke yesterday and ash was falling in our yard. Hopefully the firefighters will have gotten some control of these fires by this morning. There is a slight chance of rain in the next week - we need it desperately.

Doctor Today

Off to the doctor early this morning for a regular follow-up appointment. Everything is pretty much status quo (for me, anyway) with no big changes. Weekend ahead, John has to move his e-mail to a new area (no change in e-mail address - just new site) -- plus move all his folders, of which there are scads, contacts, etc... change password. Other than that, a quiet weekend as he has been working over 12 hours a day all this week; he needs rest and peace.

Have a fun weekend!

Vacation Time

Because of the Independence Day holiday on July 4, many people will be taking vacation time over the next week or two. Hot weather here, reaching 100 today and for a few days, so most are heading to the mountains, where it's cooler, or to rivers and lakes to cool off in the water. Many accidents happen on the roads at this time of year so I am praying for safe travel for all vacationers. Have Fun!

The Grass Is Always Greener

This photo was taken on their Mexico vacation. They had a blast!

We spent some time with them on Skype on Father's Day. Alan is well and Misha and Marcelle are getting over a stubborn cold. Marcelle is saying so many words now. We had Skyped with them just a few weeks before and since then her vocabulary has exploded. So much fun to hear her sweet little voice speaking. All three of our granddaughters had such sweet tiny voices when they were small. What a delight!

Wallow Fire Update

We are now into the fourth week of this immense fire. Over 500,000 acres have burned. It is now 51% contained (Praise God!) due to the heroic efforts of thousands of firefighters from all over the country. Saturday night we could smell the smoke and there was ash falling in our yard. Really peculiar and scary. Yesterday there was no smoke just a little haze. As they get this fire under control the smoke will not spread as far. The amazing thing is that the smoke has gone as far as Iowa. Crazy.

Nueva Vallarta

Misha, Alan, and Marcelle recently spent some time in Mexico. They had a really great time. The stayed at a family-friendly resort that has lots of fun things to do with children. Marcelle loves the water and was truly in her element. Misha and Marcelle will be here soon to visit us for a four day weekend. We can hardly wait!

John Update

Aleve is amazing! John's pain is under control most of the time. He somehow cracked a molar all the way around, horizontally, below the gum line. This calls for serious care: possible are -- root canal plus crown -- better is an implant -- awaiting insurance and what they will cover at what %. In the meantime, his dentist did some work to alleviate some of the pain and set appointments to take care of it. So, he will be ok. He's just happy to know what's going on and have less pain.

Have a super duper weekend!

Working Out The Bugs

Life is full of surprises, new things, fun things, scary things, wonderful things. Many of us seem to be afraid of something new. I know that I am a little wary of something new if I don't know someone who has already "tried" it. I was raised to be extremely cautious. Now, this is good in some ways; it has kept me, especially when I was young, from getting into deep trouble. It can also be not so good; I have not tried a lot of things that I am sure would be so much fun and now that I am in the state I am in I will never get to do them. There are only a couple of things that would be so awesome to try that I still think about them: swimming with dolphins, being a professional singer (Folk singer in the 60's and 70's), acting for a living. Seems weird to actually put these in writing and share them with you all -- have never really told anyone before. At any rate, these are a few of my dreams that are now to be laid to rest. I have a wonderful life - not one regret. I have the most amazing, loving husband, two lovely, intelligent, loving daughters, two sons-in-law that my daughters and we love very much, and three gorgeous, adorable granddaughters. I cherish each one of them and would not trade one minute with any of them for anything. I am blessed.

T.S.A. Issues

Lately, on the news, the TSA has been under fire for going overboard on their pat downs. I watched a tape of a man going through this; it was embarrassing to watch so I can't even imagine what the man was thinking and feeling. I know that the TSA are doing only what they have been train to do - their job - but I think there should be a "rethink" about what that should be. It is, for sure, a very difficult problem -- how to keep us safe and keep our dignity at the same time. It is a conundrum.

Tootheache Update

John now has a new dentist. He is on the cancellation list (they will call him if they have a cancellation before his scheduled appointment---in fact, they called him to come in this afternoon but his brother, Simon, has a podiatrist appointment that John is taking him to so he had to decline) and has an appointment Thursday afternoon. This dentist has an awesome staff who actually asked about his toothache -- where is it, is the area swollen, etc... Our current dentist's staff seemed unconcerned about John and asked no questions. So, I am not happy with that. I do have a hygiene appointment in a few weeks so I have to make a decision about myself soon. Funny, I thought they were awesome -- you find out things when there is an emergency. I'm sad about it but that's life. I'm happy that John will be well taken care of at a dental practice who cares.

Toothache

Poor John. He's had a toothache for well over a week now. Last week, when he called our dentist's office, it was dull ache but since Friday it has been quite painful - he's been using a local anaesthetic OTC product and acetaminophen for the pain but it only lasts a couple of hours, sometimes less. When he called for an appointment they gave him one on the 30th. That was 3 weeks away - now 2 and a half weeks away. So, while he's at work, I will call this morning and do everything in my power to get him in there today or tomorrow at the latest. If they can't we will be finding a new dentist and getting him in there. Keep your fingers crossed for him.

Lawyer Update

So, both my lawyers for my Long Term Disability lawsuit and my representatives for Social Security Disability say that I am able (in accordance with my doctor) to work part-time. Now, I know that I can work from home and perhaps up to 8 or 10 hours per week out of the home -- the problem is finding a job of 15 to 20 hours a week with only 8 - 10 hours of it outside the home. I am working with a state agency here in our county which helps those with disabilities get back into the work force. Praying that I can soon find something that works with my limitations and work experience.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Blogging

I have been blogging for 16 months now; where does the time go? Sometimes it is really a joy, fun, silly, touching - all dependent upon the subject matter and my mood and whether I feel well or not. Other times it is a stress because I feel unwell due to the vertigo and so it becomes a burden. And, as you know, there are times when I am just not able to blog at all. All in all, though, I am happy that I am doing this. Nothing I have said is of great import but I kind of use it as a journal so it has a personal value. I do hope that sometimes you enjoy reading what I have to say, get a laugh out of one of the cartoons, and see and like the photos I post. I will continue on this path for as long as I know there are those who read it and enjoy it.

Mission Bells

There are so many beautiful old missions and churches in New Mexico to see. You could probably spend weeks travelling around the state just visiting them. There is so much beauty here in addition to these old missions: the high desert itself is exquisite with the gorgeous mountains, incredible cloud formations, and sky that goes on forever. We love living here with all this beauty.

Blood Red Sun

This photo of the sun was taken at the end of the day yesterday and is being shown on a local weather forecast. Due to the two fires, near the New Mexico state line, in Arizona we have had huge amounts of smoke and it has changed the sunsets dramatically. Albuquerque even has ash falling on homes on the West side of the city. We can see the smoke and haze but have had no difficulty in breathing. One of the fires is absolutely immense, some 195,000 acres, and there is no control of it imminent.

For Whatever Ails You

However minor or major a medical or emotional problem you may have, a good laugh is medicine for it. Proven over and over in studies, laughing heals. Prayer has also proven to work for medical problems (I'm sure the same is true of emotional ones although I don't think any studies have been done) even if the object of the prayer does not believe. The power of laughter and prayer, together, is awesome!

Super Cell

With all the horrendous storms and tornadoes lately I thought I would post this photo taken from our front porch three years ago. The super cell was in the town just south of us a few miles. Belen, the town in question, received terrible wind and hail damage - there wasn't a leaf left on a tree anywhere. Thankfully, a tornado never developed. These storms are awesome and terrible.

Have a safe weekend!

Sons-In-Law

John and I feel so blessed to have Danny and Alan as our sons-in-law. We know that our daughters and granddaughters are loved and well taken care of. There is peace in knowing this. We thank God for these two wonderful, loving men.

Electronic Games

We do not have Playstations or an XBox. We do have an little Nintendo DS with a few games. I do enjoy the occasional few minutes on my DS. However, I understand that some people are playing their electronic games for hours and hours -- whether on their phones or at home on their Playstation, etc... Personally, when not very dizzy and can do it for a few minutes, I prefer reading. Reading has been my "game" since I was a kid. One of the things about vertigo which drives me crazy is that I am unable to read for very long - just a few minutes at a time - or it will increase the vertigo. It's sad, really, as I used to be able to read 2 or 3 books at a time and read them very quickly - enjoying every word. Such is life!
